The Hidden Disabilities Sunflower lanyard is a discreet way to indicate that you need extra support while travelling. the many of our clients (and team!) find it useful.

Fulfilling Dreams, Building Skills, and Supporting Independence

We believe that travelling is more than just a holiday—it’s a pathway to independence, connection, and new possibilities as well as a break from your usual routine. At Mindful Living Supports, we proudly support our ongoing clients to achieve their NDIS and personal goals through tailored, multi-day travel experiences across Australia and closer to home.

What Makes Our Travel Support Different

  • For Ongoing Clients Only: Supported Travel is available exclusively for clients in our service area and prioritised for clients we know well, so we can fully understand your needs, preferences, and goals. This is not a generic respite service—travel is an extension of our trusted, relationship-based support.

  • Capacity Building & Confidence: Every trip is designed to build life skills, confidence, and independence—helping you enjoy travel in ways that are meaningful to you. Many of our clients go on to travel solo or with family, equipped with new skills and self-assurance.

  • Flexible Support Models:

    • In-Person Support: Travel with a familiar MLS support worker or flying companion for hands-on assistance and a smooth journey to your destination.

    • Background & Remote Support: Prefer more independence? We help you plan, book, and arrange every detail, then stay connected with text check-ins, troubleshooting, and gentle encouragement throughout your trip.

    • Expert Booking & Planning: We handle flights, hotels, tours, and accessible arrangements (including hotel bookings via Booking.com and travel insurance links) so you can focus on the experience, not the logistics.

  • NDIS-Aligned, Person-Centred & Goal Oriented: Our service aligns with NDIS Short Term Accommodation (STA) and capacity-building funding, but we keep the process personal and empowering—not bureaucratic.

Understanding NDIS STA Rules & Changes

What NDIS STA (Short Term Accommodation) Will Pay For:

  • The cost of a support worker to assist you while you travel (if this is part of your plan)

  • Your accommodation/hotel costs (if STA or Respite is included in your plan)

  • Support hours for planning, booking, and remote check-ins

What NDIS STA Will Not Usually Pay For:

  • Flights or transport to your destination for you or your carer (these are considered personal expenses)

  • Meals, activities, or personal spending money

  • Accommodation, flights, or support for family members unless specified in your plan

If You Don’t Have STA/Respite in Your Plan:

  • You may still be able to use your core support hours to achieve your travel goals.

  • In this case, you pay for your own hotel, flights, and other travel costs, but your support worker’s hours and planning time can be covered by your NDIS funding (if aligned with your goals).

Tip: Always check with your Support Coordinator or Plan Manager to make sure your travel plans and funding are aligned with your NDIS goals and budget. We can help you with an outline to work with before you book.

Your Journey, Your Way

Whether you need a flying companion, planning and booking support, or just background/ non face to face encouragement while you travel, we’re here for you—before, during, and after your journey. Every trip is tailored to your needs, comfort, and goals. Fun fact, our founder was a travel agent before coming to Community services, and later managed Carer Respite services, so we have a unique understanding of the importance of travel for you and your family.

Not a client but need support to plan your travel?
