Having Your Say: A Simple Way to Share Your Story with the NDIS Senate Inquiry (Urgent closes 29 May!)

Sorry to be as dry as a bag of chips in this blog but this is IMPORTANT because with the upcoming NDIS budget changes causing a lot of worry right now, we want you to know that you are not alone.

Public feedback to the Senate Inquiry regarding the Securing the NDIS for Future Generations Bill 2026 closes this Friday, 29 May 2026.

We have put this resource together because there is very limited time and your voice is important. We understand that for many women in our community, regular support is not a "nice to have" item, it is a life-changing lifeline and a matter of daily survival.

We write this as people with lived experience, standing in solidarity with you to disrupt a system that often fails to see our humanity. When big policy decisions are made, decision-makers need to see that we are not generic data points or check boxes on a budget sheet.

Your lived experience is real, your story is powerful, and sharing your truth is a vital act of disruption that will make a difference in this fight. You are not a generic pigeon, you are a unicorn!

To make self-advocacy completely stress-free, know that you do not need to fill out complex government forms or sign anything.

We have created an ultra-simple framework (below) to help you have your say.

How to Have Your Say

  1. Copy the template below into an email or word document.

  2. Read the three prompts to help you figure out what you want to say.

  3. Fill in your details, choose your privacy preference, and submit it via the link below

    Official Senate Submission Portal #
go on push that red button!

The Statement Template

To: The Senate Community Affairs Legislation Committee

Regarding: The Securing the NDIS for Future Generations Bill 2026

Participant Name: [Insert Name, or write "Anonymous"]

NDIS Number: [Insert NDIS Number, if known]

Prompts to help guide your statement:

  • How does having your support team around help you manage your day when things feel heavy or overwhelming?

  • What is one thing you can do now with your supports (like leaving the house or getting tasks done) that would be really hard to do completely alone?

  • If your funding was cut and you lost this regular support, how would that change your week and life?

My Personal Statement:

"[Insert your honest thoughts here. Only a few sentences are needed to show your reality.]" If you have the energy today, write a comprehensive statement to use later, do that otherwise keep it short.

**Tip write how you feel on your worst day, how you struggle with the basics and not when you are high masking or pushing through as this is not safe or sustainable, and that is the point. We need support not only on our worst days but also to stay in recovery. NDIS does not recognise episodic support needs like it should for people living with psychosocial disabilities (!)

**AI tip as a valid accommodation tool for neurospicy sisters - especially when we are upset, it is hard to articulate our thoughts, you can write your scrambled thoughts into AI and ask for them to be turned into a personal statement or report, it can then clarify your points and you can edit it to be yours.

The Reality of My Supports:

  • This is a lifeline, not a luxury: Having consistent support from someone who deeply understands my neurodivergent and psychosocial needs is life-changing. Without it, my mental health rapidly deteriorates and the situation becomes a matter of survival.

  • Protection against absolute isolation: My support team keeps me tethered to the world. Without them, severe anxiety and executive paralysis mean I cannot leave my home, access the community safely, or manage basic human needs.

  • Preserving my dignity: Having a trusted person step into my space provides the safety I need to navigate a world that is not built for my brain. These hours keep me safe, grounded, and out of emergency systems.

I ask the Committee to understand that these funding cuts directly threaten my safety and my life. Please listen to our real stories and protect the daily supports that keep us alive and independent.

REQUIRED PRIVACY SELECTION

(Please choose one option below so the committee knows how to handle your words:)

  • OPTION 1: SHARE PUBLICLY (My name and statement can be published online)

  • OPTION 2: SHARE ANONYMOUSLY (My statement can be published, but my name must be removed)

  • OPTION 3: KEEP STRICTLY CONFIDENTIAL (The Committee reads it privately; it must not be published)

Save this letter to use again and protect your energy later

Self-advocacy is important, but it shouldn't exhaust you. Once you have written out your personal statement, save the text on your phone or computer. The next time an LAC, a support coordinator or a new therapist asks you to explain how your disability impacts your daily living, you can simply share this document. It lays out your needs perfectly so you never have to waste your energy repeating your story again.

As much as I want to get on my soap box right now I will make do with eye rolls that make my head spin, because time is of the essence here ladies! Sorry we cannot help all of you individually so this is the next best thing with such short notice.

Your story is valid, your voice matters, and we are standing right beside you. You got this!

With care,

Kelly & MLS team

Ps. For MLS clients, we are preparing to submit on behalf of our NDIS participants, your support workers will help you work through this so we ensure it is received on time.

Pss. Apologies for any typos or extreme weirdness I am very upset atm and needed to work fast.
